SPORTS CLUB OF THE YEAR 2009  -  HAWKWELL ATHLETIC FC

Hawkwell Athletic fought off stiff oposition from Hullbridge Sports Football Club and Rochford and District Swimming Club to retain the title of Sports Club of the Year which they won in 2008.

Introduced at the awards as 'an innovative, forward-thinking club' with a 'passionate volunteer force' and a 'driven, enthusiastic committtee', it is no wonder the awards committee at the council didn't hesitate to award Hawkwell Athletic for a second year running.

Craig Leverington collected the award from Commonwealth Gold Medalist Dean Macey.

Our very own Steve Dowding was pipped at the post for the Services To Sport Award for 2009 but was awarded with a 'nominated with distinction' certificate.
