Hawkwell Athletic Football Club (HAFC) was founded in 1974 when platform shoes and long hair were all the rage. Leeds Utd. were league champions whilst Manchester Utd were relegated! Every boy and girl was playing with Lego, whilst Ping-Pong was the top computer game (for those who had computers). The Wombles dominated the music world and the must see TV show was TISWAS. McDonalds opened their first restaurant in the UK,..how things have changed!

Since that time the club has grown into one of the largest football clubs in the Southend area, covering mini, junior and senior soccer players. The club has a well-established tradition of attracting both boys and girls alike to a well-organised, friendly and respected club where the main priority is for everyone to have fun.

Players of all abilities are welcome and catered for at the club with the emphasis on developing players whilst maintaining their natural enthusiasm for football. We do have boys who have gone on to, and still represent, professional School’s of Excellence, such as Southend Utd. and West Ham Utd. and notably Spencer Prior, of Southend Utd., Manchester City, Derby County and Cardiff City had much success representing Hawkwell Athletic as a boy.

A Child Protection Officer has been appointed for any issues that may arise and the club has a proper Constitution and also has specific Club Rules which must be abided by.

The club has its own ground situated at Apex Playing Fields, Apex Corner, Plumberow Mount Avenue, Hockley which its shares in partnership with Greensward College. Mini soccer is also played at the Hockley Community Centre, Westminster Drive, Hockley.

The club is run by a committee of hardy individuals who are officially elected annually by club members. There are a small number of sub-committees, which concentrate on the ever popular and renowned annual tournament, social events and the future plans for the club.

All male teams should play in Red and Black striped shirts, Black shorts and Black socks.  The girls and ladies teams have the option of playing in our traditional club colours or opting for the new Pink and Black striped shirts with Black shorts and Black socks.
